April 21, 2017 was a 2nd trip to St Joseph’s Abbey,http://www.saintjosephabbey.com/, for a Pastel Plein Air demonstration by Mary Monk, http://www.marymonk.com/.

The Degas Pastel Society hosted the event and President Alan Flattmann, www.alanflattmann.com, gave a welcoming speech in the Art Works Studio and displayed pastel products for inspection.

It was a thrilling day touring the Abbey’s Art Works building,http://www.saintjosephabbey.com/abbey-art-works/, meeting their directing Artist in Residence, Lyn Hill Hayward Taylor, and all the Degas Pastel Society Members, http://www.degaspastelsociety.org/.

The morning was watching the demo by Mary Monk for two hours, then hadlunch in the Abbey Dining Room and afterwards one of the Monks gave us a tour of the Abbey’s famous murals.

I wound the day up by meeting one of the Alumni who gave me their personal history of attending school at the Seminary.

A beautiful day of Pastel Art.
